Sustainability

Our native alaskan wild salmon 100% sustainable.

Kwik'pak Fisheries is a member of the Marine Stewardship Council and our products have been certified as sustainable. In fact, all salmon runs in Alaska are certified as sustainable due to the strict management by Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Salmon runs are closely monitored to make sure that they are not over fished and that an adequate number of fish are allowed up the river to spawn. The Yukon River fisheries are monitored not only by the State of Alaska but by the Canadian Fisheries as well. Many of the Yukon Kings travel well into Canada to their spawning grounds and are monitored throughout the trip.

A sustainable run on the Yukon is very important to the local residents. Fishing, both subsistence and commercial, make up a large part of peoples diet and income in the area. During the late 90's the run size began to diminish and Fish and Game took drastic steps by limiting fishing and even closing the river for one season. The runs are on the rise now and catches have been substantially increasing each year.
